Where were you born and where do you call home?
Walla Walla Washington USA, I live in Roberts Montana USA
What type of music do you produce and why?
I produce all styles of music, mostly rock, pop and blues.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
I’m inspired by life! My influences as a kid were Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
Bachman Turner Overdrive. The power and energy got me hooked.
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
My first gig was with my band Joker and we play a concert in one of the band mates garage for all our friends.
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
Live and Let Die, James Bond of course!
If you write your own material, Can you share a line or two from something you have written? If not a line or two from your favourite song.

Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was born in Bordeaux … but my real home is Montpellier for years now. South of France.
What type of music do you produce and why?
I am kind of stuck in pop … 60’s mostly. I can listen to other styles, but I definitely write pop songs because of … sometimes the weather, the feeling of living in another life, in a movie or another time.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
What inspires? …It changes … depending on what I can read, or watch on TV or at the movies …Usually it happens when I’m in a middle of something . A line in a movie, a walk in the street …
I like funny situations, absurd scenes and nonsense. I also need to express anxiety or sad moods. Feeling grateful to my girlfriend. Feeling useless too …
Most of the time, I like the idea of being a stranger to these songs. Writing or singing in a foreign language helps me keeping a useful distance.
It’s not my mother tongue, so writing pop songs in English gives me the impression to get closer to songwriters I usually listen to and admire even if I’m really far from :

Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
Ha ! Ha ! Ha !… age 4 is OK ? A French singer in the mid 70’s … Maxime Le Forestier at Le Cirque d’hiver in Paris. On my dad’s shoulders, when he asked me who was the poster he was dedicating for … I shyly answered : For my room …
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
My first gig was a friend’s invitation in the south of France in an associative theatre. I was alone, sweaty, eyes stuck on my left hand, and sang on my chair with a shivering voice …
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
Arg. It’s not a old classic film, but one of my favourite’s … The big Lebowski. Or maybe in fact any other Coen bros’ movie…Barton Fink, Miller’s Crossing, No country for old men …Burn after reading … I’m fond Coen’s sense of details, of matters and the sensual way they exploit both cynism and humour.
A role in it ? … Jesus ? Pulling up on my purple socks …
Being Bernard Hermann could be fun too … Hitchcock’s Vertigo and it’s music score is my all time fantasy !!!

Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
Absolutely indie. None of the band’s member depends on music financially.
Personally I’d be glad to have a real label or a manager but in a way, I think it’s a chance not to be a full time musician. Not to be a one and only whole person.
I find fun in different (small) careers … contemporary art, teacher in an art school …and music.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
I really love when I reach a sound or a music I wanted to hear. Recording music is probably what I prefer. Catching a moment that becomes a long-life trace.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
We’re working on what could be the next record. Maybe an EP first. Then a LP.
EP is a cheaper project.
Most of all, we need to find touring plans …if you have ones … they’re welcome !!

Guest interview with Ed Drury
I am delighted to introduce my dear friend Ed Drury to you;
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was born in a small rural Oregon town about an hour East of Portland along the Columbia River and I now live in Portland Oregon. I’ve always been a west coast boy and try not to ever be far from the Pacific Ocean. I love the West Coast of the US, Canada, and Hawai`i. I have travelled some in South East Asia, Indonesia, and other Pacific Rim destinations pursuing my love of indigenous art, music, and language.
What type of music do you produce and why?
I write music in a variety of genres using both electronic and acoustic instrumental forms as well as occasionally vocal songs. I started out as a rocker heavily influenced by folk artist such as Pete Seeger, Donovan, Paul Simon, and of course Dylan. As a guitarist I tried emulating Simon, but people who I would call second guitar players (as opposed to rhythm guitar). That is people like Keith Richards who was laying down very intricate parts which wove melody and harmony in and around the first or lead guitar players. Parts that could well stand on their own as far as I was concerned. Like Richards on Honky Tonk Women. Just brilliant! But I have also been fascinated with world music and hence studying the Didjeridu, Tablas, plus as a trumpeter I have some fondness for big band, jazz, and Latin music as well as Afro-Cuban, Traditional Hawai`ian etc… So I guess I’m into all kinds of music and mainly just because I want to.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
Growing up I would have to say groups like the Beatles, the Stones, the Who, the entire English invasion thing. But also Hendrix, the Doors, and of course as a west coast boy, the Grateful Dead.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
That’s going back a long time. As a kid, my parents took me to see Al Hirt play. That was fantastic! I had heard recordings but until I never heard a conservatory trained trumpeter play live. As a teen I went and saw a big show with Rod Stewart (with the Small Faces), Joe Cocker (then with the Grease Band), and Savoy Brown. That was one hell of a show. I remember Stewart seemed to be 7 feet tall and when he came out he picked the mic stand up in one hand and twirled it like a baton. But probably the greatest performing act I’ve seen to this day was Jethro Tull. Quite theatrical and hit all my criteria. They could down right rock but very much influenced by folk music and story telling. Wonderful.
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
Outside of school bands, hmmm. I remember a lot of early ones. I was in a country/western band for awhile. We played smoky little taverns and such. I was the youngest probably not old enough to be in some of the places we played. The drummer was a real cowboy type. He had a rope tied his bass drum so it wouldn’t “walk” away from him on stage. Every once in awhile I hear the bass drum drop out for a beat and when I’d look over I’d see him pulling on that rope like he just roped a calf. The audiences loved it.

Interesting questions! I’ve always wanted to do a horror film so I suppose the original 1931 Dracula movie Bela Lugosi. I would have to play Dracula of course.

This is from a folk song I wrote when I was much younger called Traveling Again. I had been hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and taught it to several people. Wrote it using a mandolin. Well, years later I was playing it at an open mic and this girl came up to me and said she had heard that song off and on up and down the trail. When you write a folk song and it gets picked up like that it makes you feel pretty special.

Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
I am an indie now. I have played with signed bands, belonged to the union, and I’ve also had managers and even a PR person for a few years. There are advantages to be an indie and being signed. Obviously being an Indie is hard work and you have to wear a lot of hats. I can’t say it is for everyone and even indies need to contract help at times. The indie route is definitely not for all musicians but I think people assume, wrongly, that indies are people who couldn’t get a contract. Let me tell you, most anyone can find some kind of representation if they can produce the cash. Having a nice record deal with some advance money doesn’t suck though.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
It is more like how can I escape a life long obsession? I’ve taken long breaks from playing, writing, and recording music before. I wasn’t happy. I don’t need to be doing it professionally to be happy. But I do need to be doing it.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
I’m working on a project now to try and combine all the instruments I play into a collection of pieces which will feature different influences throughout my life. Sort of an autobiography in music. I’m also trying to document as much of it on video as I go. I post those on my facebook artist page just to let people have a little glimpse of how I work. Who knows, it might inspire someone to attempt their own solo project. That would be great!

I was born in California but never lived there. I grew up and spent most of my life in Boston, MA. and consider that my home town.
What type of music do you produce and why?
I like singer/songwriter music from the 70s. It’s what I write and like to produce.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
Ideas for songs just come to me, not sure from where. They usually come while I’m busy doing 50 other things. My biggest influences were The Beatles, Elton John and Billy Joel.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My very first concert was Elton John in 1974. I was 12yo. It was amazing. The sound was great and Elton was in his prime.

Interview with Aleisha Simpson
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was Born in Missoula, Montana and moved to Spokane, Wa when I was 9. I’ve lived in Spokane since.
What type of music do you produce and why?
We produce a style considered gothic or symphonic rock. I really love the sound of a hard rock band with a classically trained female voice. There is something magical that happens when the two are combined. I remember the first time I heard Evanescence music. It made me sit up and go that, that’s the kind of music I want to make.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
Im inspired by events that happen either to me or around. The first few songs I wrote were actually inspired by the loss of someone I deeply loved and dealt with that pain through music. Honestly, song writing is better than therapy for me. Growing up I really loved the music of female rockers like Joan Jett and Heart, and later on in high school and college I liked bands like Garbage, No Doubt, Sarah McLachlan and Sarah Brightman, but my number one influence was definitely Evanescence.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
Oh my gosh, that was so long ago. Lol. I think my very first concert was a Christian singer name Micheal W. Smith when I was 13. He was such a passionate singer that put his entire being into his singing and playing. It was really beautiful and wonderful and I knew that someday I wanted to be able to be the one up there on stage helping people create memories.
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
My first gig was in 2009 with co-founder and guitarist of Heart Avail, Greg Hanson and I. At that point, it was him and I writing music together. We got asked to play our very first gig at this little bar called The Lions Lair, in Spokane, WA for St Patricks day. We had a ton of fun and I remember the bartender coming out saying, “ You guys are really good. Almost too good because once you started singing no one wanted to get up and buy drinks, they just wanted to listen to you guys. “It was really flattering and I was hooked on playing live music.
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
Ohhhh good question. I would love to do a soundtrack for Breakfast at Tiffany’s and of course by Holly Golightly. Greg and I are huge Audrey Hepburn fans so I would jump at the chance to do music and acting for that film. It is hands down my favourite! My Fair Lady would play a close second though soooo who knows.

I am actually planning on getting part of this tattooed on my arm so I think a line from our song “Always” is a good choice:

Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
We do have a manager but are still considered Indie since most of the managing happens by me. I book a lot of my own shows, radio interviews, radio plays etc and am constantly watching for ways to promote my band and get it heard worldwide.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
Music is in my blood honestly. I’m not really sure what I would do without out. When I get discouraged and down on myself for not being further in my musical career, I do research on how to make my band better. And of course listen to some of my favourite musicians and read their stories on how they kept going when they got discouraged. There is always a story to tell so writing music, is easy.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
We currently are getting ready to do a major three month press release all over Canada and are working on getting a tour . We are also going to be on the cover of a major rock magazine in the UK so really exciting things happening. The East Coast really wants us over there so that’s in the works as well as a European tour, eventually. We would love to join up with the female metal bands in Europe! We are also currently working on a new album and hopefully hooking up with some major acts soon! There is a ton in the works so we are pretty excited to see where all our ventures take us.

Where were you born and where do you call home?
Born in London, but living near Bath in Wiltshire.
What type of music do you produce and why?
I write Indie Folk music because I love the story telling aspect of folk music.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
I get inspired by all sorts; stories I hear, people I meet, the way certain words sound together and of course my own experiences. I like to thread my own thoughts and feelings through a narrative from someone else’s point of view as I find that that makes the lyrics more open to interpretation. I grew up listening to Sting and Pat Metheny, and now I listen to a variety of pop punk and Indie Folk which I suppose is slightly unusual but I love listening to a whole range of music. I am also hugely influenced by poetry, particularly Yeats’ poetry.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My first proper live concert was Jools Holland Picnic in the Park which was held in Hampstead Heath. My memories of that concert are quite vague…. I do remember that the fireworks at the end of the concert were awesome though!
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
Outside of school performances, my first gig was with my secondary school rock band, Good Morning Manhattan. We played the village scarecrow festival where it rained pretty much all day but it was great fun. We played covers and had one original song. My first solo gig was for a local internet radio station’s first birthday celebration. My set consisted of about four original songs and a few covers.
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
Well my favourite film is The Lion King… but I don’t think that constitutes an old classic. Although I would love to be involved with that sort of soundtrack, I think it would be really cool to be involved with making music so different to my own.
I would be Nala hands down… She’s the best.

Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
I am currently self-managed, a decision I made because I am going to university in Liverpool next year so I suppose I want to be able to have abit more control over what I’m doing this year. Also, with all of today’s technology, it is completely possible to achieve a lot on your own, although I can 100% see the benefits of having a manager. Maybe that will be something I think about in the future.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
Cliché as it may sound but it is something that I feel I have to do. Writing music helps me to process and understand everything that goes on around me.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
I am currently working on my second EP, yet to be named. The current plan is just to get on the road and gig as much as possible, and share my music with everyone and anyone who wants to listen.

Welcome Ann and thanks for answering my questions.
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and now reside in Toronto, Ontario.
What type of music do you produce and why?
My band produces a blend of Progressive Rock, World Music, Goth, Ambient, Experimental Soundscapes and a touch of New Age. Outside the band I’ve sung R & B, Soul, Rock, Dance and Opera.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
My band has a number of members whom are inspired by mostly Progressive Rock, Classical and Rock genres. Inspiration for us comes from many places though, not just music. Everything in life can be an inspiration of some sort! Mostly as whole, my band and I are inspired to write thought provoking music and lyrics. I tend to write lyrics based on personal experiences or of those or others close to me but not limited to just these. For example, some of our songs are about War, Angels, Spiritual matters, Healing,the human condition and some of what that encompasses. I will say that I don’t write love songs, not typical ones anyway. I like to write a bit abstract in my storylines so that people have to actually think and also interpret in their own way and figure out how they might relate and what they think my meaning is. It’s not and shouldn’t be just about me! It’s about the listener too. My personal influences growing up were my parents and extended family first and foremost as they’re all musicians, artists etc. Other people who greatly influenced me were and still are the super talented musicians in ABBA, many Canadian bands such as Streetheart, QCK, Harlequin, The Headpins, SAGA,RUSH, April wine and more, TOTO (my most favourite band of all time) , Deep Purple, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Utopia/Todd Rundgren, Pat Benetar, Scorpions ,YES, Duran Duran, Beethoven, Mozart, Prokofiev and the like, and especially Glen Hughes from Deep Purple. He’s a very unique, phenomenal singer and musician. I could go on but this is a good start! My fellow bandmates have influences such as YES, The Beatles, Giant, Old Genesis, Classical composers, ELP, and others.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My first live concerts were always the symphony and operas because both my parents performed in The Winnipeg Symphony. Dare I say I attended my first shows being in my mom’s belly when she was onstage performing! She played the French Horn so the bell of the horn would have been sitting atop her belly. I think I heard loud and clear, LOL! My first memories of seeing the symphony are when I was likely around age 4. I used to go to the concert hall and hang out with all the members in the symphony backstage and with their families/kids, the ushers, security and all. We were all quite close. It meant a lot to me to have such a huge musical ‘family’. There were about 88 people in the orchestra at that time. Seeing and hearing the classical music performed in a beautiful hall, and knowing the people personally, was a huge feeling of pride, magic and awe. They always sounded fantastic. I grew to really love classical music. It’s definitely my foundation, my roots, for all things music. I was so blessed to have all of that and have always greatly appreciated it. When I was a teenager my first live show was probably the Scorpions. I recall being very excited to see them and experience a real live rock show for the first time with my best friends. The air was so electric and surreal. They put on a tremendous show. I was blown away by their musicianship and fun stage antics such as running around while playing, jumping, high kicking etc. I couldn’t believe that they didn’t miss a note doing the acrobatics they were doing, lol. I remember how well they engaged the audience. It felt like a big, united sea of music lovers. It was as though we were all linked for that short time. It was an amazing feeling. We were all on such a high! After that, I wanted to go to as many concerts as I could, which I did. I just recently found all my old ticket stubs from back then actually! It took me right back. Those date back to 1985 or so.
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
I’ve had a few different kinds of gigs. I think the first time I ever performed was when I played cello in an Intermediate orchestra. We performed in Brandon, Manitoba I think. I also danced as a ballerina in a few theatres, does that count, lol? As far as bands go, my first gig was as a backup singer for a Shania Twain tribute act at a fair in Barrie, Ontario. My first gig doing some lead vocals and back-ups was when I was in a band called Lovejoy. My first gig with them was at the Reverb in Toronto, Ont. With my current and own personal band, Dream Aria, our first gig was at The Rivoli in Toronto.
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
I’m not much of a fan of really old movies. I’d much prefer to add to the soundtrack to something like The Last of the Mohicans or Braveheart. The music (and cinematography, writing, acting etc) in both of those movies is stunning and I’d love to be a part of writing even more to what was already done! It would be an honour to portray one of the Native Indians in the movie because I’m very drawn to my genetic roots ( I have a bit of American Osage Indian in my blood) and I love and respect many things about Native culture. As long as the role doesn’t include being violent, lol! I’d be one of the good guys (gal)

Yes, my band and I write our own material. Here’s a few lines from our song “Abstract Relations”:
“You’re under my skin, and there you’ll stay and crawl about. Leaving little bits and pieces, of shadow and doubt. Here and there you bleed tiny droplets. Just a peek, a glimpse into your soulspeak. Go with chemistry, in motion, into a head on collision with elation”.
Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
We’re Indie with no manager. We’ve always been of the mindset to do what we love and to do all the work ourselves. But if a good deal came around with a manager and/or record label, we’d be open to it. There just tends to be a lot of talk and no action and scams out there. We’re very careful about that sort of thing.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
Just the pure love of music, period! There are many reasons to love music. I could write a novel just on that! I do have to say a few things though. Music is good for the soul, the brain, the heart, the mind, for healing, teaching, inspiring, encouraging, uniting and more. I can’t imagine a life or world without it.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
My band and I are working on our fourth cd right now. We hope to release it in 2017 along with some new videos and possibly gigs. Aside from the band, I’ve been working tirelessly on photography and raising my daughter. My personal future plans include more work on my photography, small business and poetry/lyrics and health awareness/advocacy. I also plan to travel and write more music of course!

Where were you born and where do you call home?
Born in the United States and in the state of Kansas land of Dorothy and Toto.
What type of music do you produce and why?
So far I have done instrumental rock guitar music in the vein of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and the like. My first vocal track was on my last release “Enharmonic Dissonance” the song is called “Imbalance” and features Rick Pierce on vocals. Earlier this year Rebecca Hosking, Brian Gallagher and I collaborated on a project entitled “As the crow flies” and it is a vocal project and much different than my usual instrumental rock music. But that’s not a bad thing. I get to step outside of what I usually do and that forces me to think in different musical ways. And I like that sometimes.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
Life and my life experiences inspire my music. Sometimes just picking up a particular guitar and hearing the sound it and my amplifier produces will inspire a song. The new music I’m working on for my next solo release is unfortunately inspired by the loss of my younger brother needless to say its turning out to be a darker theme. The big three influences for me when I started playing were Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen. But I have many influences from different guitar genres. A great player is a great player and and I admire anyone that inspires me. I do have my favorites obviously though.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My very first concert was Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica. And I was just this small town kid and I had no idea how to act at a concert there were so many people and to be honest I was kind of scared. But it was a very cool thing to experience. I didn’t even know who Metallica really were at that time. I was a big Ozzy fan. If I could go back I would be right up front against the stage.
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
My first “gig” was a street dance in my hometown. I had a little band. We were terrible I’m sure. I didn’t even know how to solo in the right key. But I did it anyway. I call it jazz now.
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
Since I’m from Kansas The Wizard of Oz would be kind of cool. I would rock it up a bit. And I would probably play the man behind the curtain. The wizard.

Well the majority of my stuff is instrumental so I can’t really type a favorite guitar line. I do have many favorite guitar lines though. A line that has strikes me lately and I love it and think it fits is from the latest Anthrax album and it is “Hell is empty cause all the demons are here.” I like that.
Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
I am independent right now. I’m a control freak. But some days I think I could really use a manager. I get really busy some days. But If I can handle it I will.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
The love of music. The hard to explain feeling I get when a very small musical idea I have turns into this complex emotional work that gives even me. The person that gave birth to it. Goosebumps. It’s not easy some days. But nothing good ever comes easy I say. Especially for a Capricorn like me.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
I am working on my next solo release I have some very special guests making appearances and I’m honoured and humbled to have them playing on my compositions. Also Brian, Rebecca and I have begun work on the next “As the crow flies” release which will be fun as well. My future plans are to continue to do this for as long as I can. I’m humbled, grateful and honoured that I have people all over the world that enjoy my music and support what I do. I do this for me but the fact that others enjoy my music is a huge compliment and makes me want to continue to do the best I can.

Where were you born and where do you call home?

What type of music do you produce and why?
We would say it’s a mix of melodic indie rock with touches of other styles.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
As a band we all have different influences. Here are some Idols/ Influencers from various styles ranging from indie to country rock eg. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Johnny Cash, U2, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, counting crows etc … and the list goes on and on. Basically any music that you can relate to melodically and lyrically. Personally my biggest influence growing up were counting crows (especially lyrically).
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My first proper concert was in 1996 held by one of the most local top bands at the time (the characters). It was sthing special for a teenager who had just started experimenting with music.. funnily enough today I own and use one the singer’s guitar which was used at that concert as a living memory 🙂
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
Personally I remember it was at a live music venue which opened 24/7 and we used to go there for jamming.. with the band first we started doing acoustic gigs in 2004 before we went to Ireland.. back home then we started the band in 2008 and the most memorable one to date is the first beer festival way back in 2009 🙂

Not that old but i would choose ‘walk the line’ … and would not mind playing as johnny cash’s guitarist 😉

We are essentially indie (unsigned) but we get assisted locally by a management company and also abroad.

It’s hard to explain the feeling but as artists we make music as part of the journey… we see music as the air we breathe and that’s motivating in itself..

At the moment we are writing new material and definitely new releases are in our in our sights… soon we will continue consolidating the materianl for further releases…

Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was born in Bordeaux … but my real home is Montpellier for years now. South of France.
What type of music do you produce and why?
I am kind of stuck in pop … 60’s mostly. I can listen to other styles, but I definitely write pop songs because of … sometimes the weather, the feeling of living in another life, in a movie or another time.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
What inspires? …It changes … depending on what I can read, or watch on TV or at the movies …Usually it happens when I’m in a middle of something . A line in a movie, a walk in the street …
I like funny situations, absurd scenes and nonsense. I also need to express anxiety or sad moods. Feeling grateful to my girlfriend. Feeling useless too …
Most of the time, I like the idea of being a stranger to these songs. Writing or singing in a foreign language helps me keeping a useful distance.
It’s not my mother tongue, so writing pop songs in English gives me the impression to get closer to songwriters I usually listen to and admire even if I’m really far from :
Elliott Smith, The Beatles, Ray Davies, The Zombies, Burt Bacharach, Bowie, Black Keys, Alex Turner, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello…
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
Ha ! Ha ! Ha !… age 4 is OK ? A French singer in the mid 70’s … Maxime Le Forestier at Le Cirque d’hiver in Paris. On my dad’s shoulders, when he asked me who was the poster he was dedicating for … I shyly answered : For my room …

My first gig was a friend’s invitation in the south of France in an associative theatre. I was alone, sweaty, eyes stuck on my left hand, and sang on my chair with a shivering voice …
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
Arg. It’s not a old classic film, but one of my favourite’s … The big Lebowski. Or maybe in fact any other Coen bros’ movie…Barton Fink, Miller’s Crossing, No country for old men …Burn after reading … I’m fond Coen’s sense of details, of matters and the sensual way they exploit both cynism and humour.
A role in it ? … Jesus ? Pulling up on my purple socks …
Being Bernard Hermann could be fun too … Hitchcock’s Vertigo and it’s music score is my all time fantasy !!!

Absolutely indie. None of the band’s member depends on music financially.
Personally I’d be glad to have a real label or a manager but in a way, I think it’s a chance not to be a full time musician. Not to be a one and only whole person.
I find fun in different (small) careers … contemporary art, teacher in an art school …and music.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
I really love when I reach a sound or a music I wanted to hear. Recording music is probably what I prefer. Catching a moment that becomes a long-life trace.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
We’re working on what could be the next record. Maybe an EP first. Then a LP.
EP is a cheaper project.

Guest interview with Ed Drury
I am delighted to introduce my dear friend Ed Drury to you;
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was born in a small rural Oregon town about an hour East of Portland along the Columbia River and I now live in Portland Oregon. I’ve always been a west coast boy and try not to ever be far from the Pacific Ocean. I love the West Coast of the US, Canada, and Hawai`i. I have travelled some in South East Asia, Indonesia, and other Pacific Rim destinations pursuing my love of indigenous art, music, and language.
What type of music do you produce and why?
I write music in a variety of genres using both electronic and acoustic instrumental forms as well as occasionally vocal songs. I started out as a rocker heavily influenced by folk artist such as Pete Seeger, Donovan, Paul Simon, and of course Dylan. As a guitarist I tried emulating Simon, but people who I would call second guitar players (as opposed to rhythm guitar). That is people like Keith Richards who was laying down very intricate parts which wove melody and harmony in and around the first or lead guitar players. Parts that could well stand on their own as far as I was concerned. Like Richards on Honky Tonk Women. Just brilliant! But I have also been fascinated with world music and hence studying the Didjeridu, Tablas, plus as a trumpeter I have some fondness for big band, jazz, and Latin music as well as Afro-Cuban, Traditional Hawai`ian etc… So I guess I’m into all kinds of music and mainly just because I want to.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
Growing up I would have to say groups like the Beatles, the Stones, the Who, the entire English invasion thing. But also Hendrix, the Doors, and of course as a west coast boy, the Grateful Dead.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
That’s going back a long time. As a kid, my parents took me to see Al Hirt play. That was fantastic! I had heard recordings but until I never heard a conservatory trained trumpeter play live. As a teen I went and saw a big show with Rod Stewart (with the Small Faces), Joe Cocker (then with the Grease Band), and Savoy Brown. That was one hell of a show. I remember Stewart seemed to be 7 feet tall and when he came out he picked the mic stand up in one hand and twirled it like a baton. But probably the greatest performing act I’ve seen to this day was Jethro Tull. Quite theatrical and hit all my criteria. They could down right rock but very much influenced by folk music and story telling. Wonderful.
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
Outside of school bands, hmmm. I remember a lot of early ones. I was in a country/western band for awhile. We played smoky little taverns and such. I was the youngest probably not old enough to be in some of the places we played. The drummer was a real cowboy type. He had a rope tied his bass drum so it wouldn’t “walk” away from him on stage. Every once in awhile I hear the bass drum drop out for a beat and when I’d look over I’d see him pulling on that rope like he just roped a calf. The audiences loved it.
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
Interesting questions! I’ve always wanted to do a horror film so I suppose the original 1931 Dracula movie Bela Lugosi. I would have to play Dracula of course.

This is from a folk song I wrote when I was much younger called Traveling Again. I had been hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and taught it to several people. Wrote it using a mandolin. Well, years later I was playing it at an open mic and this girl came up to me and said she had heard that song off and on up and down the trail. When you write a folk song and it gets picked up like that it makes you feel pretty special.

Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
I am an indie now. I have played with signed bands, belonged to the union, and I’ve also had managers and even a PR person for a few years. There are advantages to be an indie and being signed. Obviously being an Indie is hard work and you have to wear a lot of hats. I can’t say it is for everyone and even indies need to contract help at times. The indie route is definitely not for all musicians but I think people assume, wrongly, that indies are people who couldn’t get a contract. Let me tell you, most anyone can find some kind of representation if they can produce the cash. Having a nice record deal with some advance money doesn’t suck though.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
It is more like how can I escape a life long obsession? I’ve taken long breaks from playing, writing, and recording music before. I wasn’t happy. I don’t need to be doing it professionally to be happy. But I do need to be doing it.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
I’m working on a project now to try and combine all the instruments I play into a collection of pieces which will feature different influences throughout my life. Sort of an autobiography in music. I’m also trying to document as much of it on video as I go. I post those on my facebook artist page just to let people have a little glimpse of how I work. Who knows, it might inspire someone to attempt their own solo project. That would be great!

I like singer/songwriter music from the 70s. It’s what I write and like to produce.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
Ideas for songs just come to me, not sure from where. They usually come while I’m busy doing 50 other things. My biggest influences were The Beatles, Elton John and Billy Joel.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My very first concert was Elton John in 1974. I was 12yo. It was amazing. The sound was great and Elton was in his prime.

Interview with Aleisha Simpson
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was Born in Missoula, Montana and moved to Spokane, Wa when I was 9. I’ve lived in Spokane since.
What type of music do you produce and why?
We produce a style considered gothic or symphonic rock. I really love the sound of a hard rock band with a classically trained female voice. There is something magical that happens when the two are combined. I remember the first time I heard Evanescence music. It made me sit up and go that, that’s the kind of music I want to make.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
Im inspired by events that happen either to me or around. The first few songs I wrote were actually inspired by the loss of someone I deeply loved and dealt with that pain through music. Honestly, song writing is better than therapy for me. Growing up I really loved the music of female rockers like Joan Jett and Heart, and later on in high school and college I liked bands like Garbage, No Doubt, Sarah McLachlan and Sarah Brightman, but my number one influence was definitely Evanescence.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
Oh my gosh, that was so long ago. Lol. I think my very first concert was a Christian singer name Micheal W. Smith when I was 13. He was such a passionate singer that put his entire being into his singing and playing. It was really beautiful and wonderful and I knew that someday I wanted to be able to be the one up there on stage helping people create memories.
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
My first gig was in 2009 with co-founder and guitarist of Heart Avail, Greg Hanson and I. At that point, it was him and I writing music together. We got asked to play our very first gig at this little bar called The Lions Lair, in Spokane, WA for St Patricks day. We had a ton of fun and I remember the bartender coming out saying, “ You guys are really good. Almost too good because once you started singing no one wanted to get up and buy drinks, they just wanted to listen to you guys. “It was really flattering and I was hooked on playing live music.
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
Ohhhh good question. I would love to do a soundtrack for Breakfast at Tiffany’s and of course by Holly Golightly. Greg and I are huge Audrey Hepburn fans so I would jump at the chance to do music and acting for that film. It is hands down my favourite! My Fair Lady would play a close second though soooo who knows.

I am actually planning on getting part of this tattooed on my arm so I think a line from our song “Always” is a good choice:

Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
We do have a manager but are still considered Indie since most of the managing happens by me. I book a lot of my own shows, radio interviews, radio plays etc and am constantly watching for ways to promote my band and get it heard worldwide.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
Music is in my blood honestly. I’m not really sure what I would do without out. When I get discouraged and down on myself for not being further in my musical career, I do research on how to make my band better. And of course listen to some of my favourite musicians and read their stories on how they kept going when they got discouraged. There is always a story to tell so writing music, is easy.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
We currently are getting ready to do a major three month press release all over Canada and are working on getting a tour . We are also going to be on the cover of a major rock magazine in the UK so really exciting things happening. The East Coast really wants us over there so that’s in the works as well as a European tour, eventually. We would love to join up with the female metal bands in Europe! We are also currently working on a new album and hopefully hooking up with some major acts soon! There is a ton in the works so we are pretty excited to see where all our ventures take us.

Where were you born and where do you call home?
Born in London, but living near Bath in Wiltshire.
What type of music do you produce and why?
I write Indie Folk music because I love the story telling aspect of folk music.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
I get inspired by all sorts; stories I hear, people I meet, the way certain words sound together and of course my own experiences. I like to thread my own thoughts and feelings through a narrative from someone else’s point of view as I find that that makes the lyrics more open to interpretation. I grew up listening to Sting and Pat Metheny, and now I listen to a variety of pop punk and Indie Folk which I suppose is slightly unusual but I love listening to a whole range of music. I am also hugely influenced by poetry, particularly Yeats’ poetry.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My first proper live concert was Jools Holland Picnic in the Park which was held in Hampstead Heath. My memories of that concert are quite vague…. I do remember that the fireworks at the end of the concert were awesome though!
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
Outside of school performances, my first gig was with my secondary school rock band, Good Morning Manhattan. We played the village scarecrow festival where it rained pretty much all day but it was great fun. We played covers and had one original song. My first solo gig was for a local internet radio station’s first birthday celebration. My set consisted of about four original songs and a few covers.
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
Well my favourite film is The Lion King… but I don’t think that constitutes an old classic. Although I would love to be involved with that sort of soundtrack, I think it would be really cool to be involved with making music so different to my own.
I would be Nala hands down… She’s the best.

I am currently self-managed, a decision I made because I am going to university in Liverpool next year so I suppose I want to be able to have abit more control over what I’m doing this year. Also, with all of today’s technology, it is completely possible to achieve a lot on your own, although I can 100% see the benefits of having a manager. Maybe that will be something I think about in the future.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
Cliché as it may sound but it is something that I feel I have to do. Writing music helps me to process and understand everything that goes on around me.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
I am currently working on my second EP, yet to be named. The current plan is just to get on the road and gig as much as possible, and share my music with everyone and anyone who wants to listen.

Welcome Ann and thanks for answering my questions.
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and now reside in Toronto, Ontario.
What type of music do you produce and why?
My band produces a blend of Progressive Rock, World Music, Goth, Ambient, Experimental Soundscapes and a touch of New Age. Outside the band I’ve sung R & B, Soul, Rock, Dance and Opera.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
My band has a number of members whom are inspired by mostly Progressive Rock, Classical and Rock genres. Inspiration for us comes from many places though, not just music. Everything in life can be an inspiration of some sort! Mostly as whole, my band and I are inspired to write thought provoking music and lyrics. I tend to write lyrics based on personal experiences or of those or others close to me but not limited to just these. For example, some of our songs are about War, Angels, Spiritual matters, Healing,the human condition and some of what that encompasses. I will say that I don’t write love songs, not typical ones anyway. I like to write a bit abstract in my storylines so that people have to actually think and also interpret in their own way and figure out how they might relate and what they think my meaning is. It’s not and shouldn’t be just about me! It’s about the listener too. My personal influences growing up were my parents and extended family first and foremost as they’re all musicians, artists etc. Other people who greatly influenced me were and still are the super talented musicians in ABBA, many Canadian bands such as Streetheart, QCK, Harlequin, The Headpins, SAGA,RUSH, April wine and more, TOTO (my most favourite band of all time) , Deep Purple, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Utopia/Todd Rundgren, Pat Benetar, Scorpions ,YES, Duran Duran, Beethoven, Mozart, Prokofiev and the like, and especially Glen Hughes from Deep Purple. He’s a very unique, phenomenal singer and musician. I could go on but this is a good start! My fellow bandmates have influences such as YES, The Beatles, Giant, Old Genesis, Classical composers, ELP, and others.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My first live concerts were always the symphony and operas because both my parents performed in The Winnipeg Symphony. Dare I say I attended my first shows being in my mom’s belly when she was onstage performing! She played the French Horn so the bell of the horn would have been sitting atop her belly. I think I heard loud and clear, LOL! My first memories of seeing the symphony are when I was likely around age 4. I used to go to the concert hall and hang out with all the members in the symphony backstage and with their families/kids, the ushers, security and all. We were all quite close. It meant a lot to me to have such a huge musical ‘family’. There were about 88 people in the orchestra at that time. Seeing and hearing the classical music performed in a beautiful hall, and knowing the people personally, was a huge feeling of pride, magic and awe. They always sounded fantastic. I grew to really love classical music. It’s definitely my foundation, my roots, for all things music. I was so blessed to have all of that and have always greatly appreciated it. When I was a teenager my first live show was probably the Scorpions. I recall being very excited to see them and experience a real live rock show for the first time with my best friends. The air was so electric and surreal. They put on a tremendous show. I was blown away by their musicianship and fun stage antics such as running around while playing, jumping, high kicking etc. I couldn’t believe that they didn’t miss a note doing the acrobatics they were doing, lol. I remember how well they engaged the audience. It felt like a big, united sea of music lovers. It was as though we were all linked for that short time. It was an amazing feeling. We were all on such a high! After that, I wanted to go to as many concerts as I could, which I did. I just recently found all my old ticket stubs from back then actually! It took me right back. Those date back to 1985 or so.
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
I’ve had a few different kinds of gigs. I think the first time I ever performed was when I played cello in an Intermediate orchestra. We performed in Brandon, Manitoba I think. I also danced as a ballerina in a few theatres, does that count, lol? As far as bands go, my first gig was as a backup singer for a Shania Twain tribute act at a fair in Barrie, Ontario. My first gig doing some lead vocals and back-ups was when I was in a band called Lovejoy. My first gig with them was at the Reverb in Toronto, Ont. With my current and own personal band, Dream Aria, our first gig was at The Rivoli in Toronto.
If you ever got offered to make a sound track for a re make of an old classic film, which film would you like it to be? And if they offered you a chance to have a role in it, which character would you like to play?
I’m not much of a fan of really old movies. I’d much prefer to add to the soundtrack to something like The Last of the Mohicans or Braveheart. The music (and cinematography, writing, acting etc) in both of those movies is stunning and I’d love to be a part of writing even more to what was already done! It would be an honour to portray one of the Native Indians in the movie because I’m very drawn to my genetic roots ( I have a bit of American Osage Indian in my blood) and I love and respect many things about Native culture. As long as the role doesn’t include being violent, lol! I’d be one of the good guys (gal)
If you write your own material, Can you share a line or two from something you have written? If not a line or two from your favourite song.
Yes, my band and I write our own material. Here’s a few lines from our song “Abstract Relations”:
“You’re under my skin, and there you’ll stay and crawl about. Leaving little bits and pieces, of shadow and doubt. Here and there you bleed tiny droplets. Just a peek, a glimpse into your soulspeak. Go with chemistry, in motion, into a head on collision with elation”.
Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
We’re Indie with no manager. We’ve always been of the mindset to do what we love and to do all the work ourselves. But if a good deal came around with a manager and/or record label, we’d be open to it. There just tends to be a lot of talk and no action and scams out there. We’re very careful about that sort of thing.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
Just the pure love of music, period! There are many reasons to love music. I could write a novel just on that! I do have to say a few things though. Music is good for the soul, the brain, the heart, the mind, for healing, teaching, inspiring, encouraging, uniting and more. I can’t imagine a life or world without it.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
My band and I are working on our fourth cd right now. We hope to release it in 2017 along with some new videos and possibly gigs. Aside from the band, I’ve been working tirelessly on photography and raising my daughter. My personal future plans include more work on my photography, small business and poetry/lyrics and health awareness/advocacy. I also plan to travel and write more music of course!

Welcome Mark!
Where were you born and where do you call home?
Born in the United States and in the state of Kansas land of Dorothy and Toto.
What type of music do you produce and why?
So far I have done instrumental rock guitar music in the vein of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and the like. My first vocal track was on my last release “Enharmonic Dissonance” the song is called “Imbalance” and features Rick Pierce on vocals. Earlier this year Rebecca Hosking, Brian Gallagher and I collaborated on a project entitled “As the crow flies” and it is a vocal project and much different than my usual instrumental rock music. But that’s not a bad thing. I get to step outside of what I usually do and that forces me to think in different musical ways. And I like that sometimes.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
Life and my life experiences inspire my music. Sometimes just picking up a particular guitar and hearing the sound it and my amplifier produces will inspire a song. The new music I’m working on for my next solo release is unfortunately inspired by the loss of my younger brother needless to say its turning out to be a darker theme. The big three influences for me when I started playing were Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen. But I have many influences from different guitar genres. A great player is a great player and and I admire anyone that inspires me. I do have my favorites obviously though.
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My very first concert was Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica. And I was just this small town kid and I had no idea how to act at a concert there were so many people and to be honest I was kind of scared. But it was a very cool thing to experience. I didn’t even know who Metallica really were at that time. I was a big Ozzy fan. If I could go back I would be right up front against the stage.
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
My first “gig” was a street dance in my hometown. I had a little band. We were terrible I’m sure. I didn’t even know how to solo in the right key. But I did it anyway. I call it jazz now.

Since I’m from Kansas The Wizard of Oz would be kind of cool. I would rock it up a bit. And I would probably play the man behind the curtain. The wizard.

Well the majority of my stuff is instrumental so I can’t really type a favorite guitar line. I do have many favorite guitar lines though. A line that has strikes me lately and I love it and think it fits is from the latest Anthrax album and it is “Hell is empty cause all the demons are here.” I like that.
Are you an indie or do you have a manager and why?
I am independent right now. I’m a control freak. But some days I think I could really use a manager. I get really busy some days. But If I can handle it I will.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
The love of music. The hard to explain feeling I get when a very small musical idea I have turns into this complex emotional work that gives even me. The person that gave birth to it. Goosebumps. It’s not easy some days. But nothing good ever comes easy I say. Especially for a Capricorn like me.
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
I am working on my next solo release I have some very special guests making appearances and I’m honoured and humbled to have them playing on my compositions. Also Brian, Rebecca and I have begun work on the next “As the crow flies” release which will be fun as well. My future plans are to continue to do this for as long as I can. I’m humbled, grateful and honoured that I have people all over the world that enjoy my music and support what I do. I do this for me but the fact that others enjoy my music is a huge compliment and makes me want to continue to do the best I can.

Where were you born and where do you call home?
Malta (Europe)
What type of music do you produce and why?
We would say it’s a mix of melodic indie rock with touches of other styles.
What inspires your music? Who were your biggest influences growing up?
As a band we all have different influences. Here are some Idols/ Influencers from various styles ranging from indie to country rock eg. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Johnny Cash, U2, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, counting crows etc … and the list goes on and on. Basically any music that you can relate to melodically and lyrically. Personally my biggest influence growing up were counting crows (especially lyrically).
Which was the first live concert that you went to? What are your memories of that?
My first proper concert was in 1996 held by one of the most local top bands at the time (the characters). It was sthing special for a teenager who had just started experimenting with music.. funnily enough today I own and use one the singer’s guitar which was used at that concert as a living memory 🙂
Where was the first gig that you held? Were you alone or in a band?
Personally I remember it was at a live music venue which opened 24/7 and we used to go there for jamming.. with the band first we started doing acoustic gigs in 2004 before we went to Ireland.. back home then we started the band in 2008 and the most memorable one to date is the first beer festival way back in 2009 🙂

Not that old but i would choose ‘walk the line’ … and would not mind playing as johnny cash’s guitarist 😉

We are essentially indie (unsigned) but we get assisted locally by a management company and also abroad.
What keeps you motivating towards producing music?
It’s hard to explain the feeling but as artists we make music as part of the journey… we see music as the air we breathe and that’s motivating in itself..
What are you working on at the moment and your future plans?
At the moment we are writing new material and definitely new releases are in our in our sights… soon we will continue consolidating the materianl for further releases…
